Zapatillas Barefoot: puntuadas con un 93,9% por UMANA

Barefoot sneakers: rated 93.9% by UMANA

Barellina is our first barefoot shoe model and was created following our purpose: to bring the barefoot experience into the most formal and elegant setting. Born from constant listening to our community, Barellina combines comfort, freedom, and design.

The new model has been evaluated by UMANA, the Biomechanical Analysis Center, achieving a score of 93.9% on the Extended Minimalist Index (EMI), placing it within the Barefoot category — the highest possible according to this standard — meaning it is the closest to walking barefoot.

UMANA is an independent organization that analyzes and certifies the healthy design of footwear, promoting well-being and connection with the body’s natural movement. Its methodology is based on scientific evidence and evaluates 15 biomechanical parameters that directly influence posture, gait, and foot health.

What is barefoot footwear? Barefoot or minimalist footwear is designed to respect the natural shape, function, and movement of the foot. Its main characteristics are:

  • Allowing free and natural movement without restrictions.
  • Enhancing plantar sensitivity, maintaining connection with the ground.
  • Supporting natural postural and gait patterns, strengthening muscles, and improving balance.

According to UMANA’s classification, levels of healthy design are established based on the Extended Minimalist Index (EMI):

  • Conventional footwear: < 70% EMI
  • Transition: 70% < EMI < 80%
  • Minimalist: 80% < EMI < 90%
  • Barefoot: > 90% EMI

With a 93.9% EMI, Libertas Barefoot is thus consolidated as a brand that stands not only for aesthetics and craftsmanship but also for biomechanics and respect for the human body. UMANA’s analysis includes validation of the sole, fit, mechanics, and control systems, ensuring that each pair of Libertas promotes freedom and the health of natural movement.
